The ‘Early Years Foundation Stage Guidance’ focuses on the learning, development and care of children from birth to 5 years.
Play underpins all learning and development for young children. It is through play that children develop intellectually, creatively, physically, socially and emotionally.
The principles that guide the work for all EYP are grouped into four themes:
• A Unique Child
• Positive Relationships
• Enabling Environments
• Learning and Development
Parents are children’s first educators and at Highfield we believe that when parents/carers work together in early years settings, the results have a positive impact on the children’s development.
Below are the six areas of learning in the EYFS and staff use careful planning in these areas to deliver learning experiences.
• Communication, Language and Literacy
• Knowledge and Understanding of the World
• Creative Skills
• Mathematics and Problem Solving
• Physical Skills
• Personal and Social Skills.
The development of speech and movement is continuous and this integrated unit is a hive of activity. The varied and busy day includes a variety of challenging learning experiences, quiet times, creative art times, songs, dances, stories and rhymes. The practitioners maintain a close relationship with parents/carers. The small pupil to staff ratio enables staff to observe and contribute to the learning and development of the each child.
